Solar Road Markers

Solar road markers are becoming popular side by side with solar roads which are entire panel laden pathways that generate energy. Markers obviously are much smaller and more scantily fitted according to road laws and they perform the same function on a much more limited scale. The one thing that does set solar road markers apart from regular road markers is that they have a light of their own as a result of solar power generation. They turn on and do not need headlights in order to show the way or be useful. This is a major selling point and why they are being incorporated on roads on a large scale.

Pros

• The solar road markers use LED technology and can be seen from a minimum distance of 1.5 kilometers unlike conventional markers which need the headlights to hit them.

• The road markers have a built-in controller which analyses the level of sunlight available and regulates charge accordingly for use at night. When absolutely no sunlight can be detected the LED bulbs turn on automatically which means a person does not need to operate them but they manage themselves.

• These road markers do not only use sunlight to charge, they also use other non-natural light sources such as street lights, building lights and headlights. This means they are very efficient even on days when natural light is hard to come by. They literally never stop operating.

• They can last up ten years depending on the manufacturer but seven years is a minimal guarantee.

Functions

• They are perfect for remote areas where electrical power can be wasted on proper lighting so solar road markers come in very handy. They are also great for areas where lighting is generally poor and little sunlight can be expected.

• The solar road markers are installed on sections of roads which need to stand out especially at night such as important turnings, bike paths, and pedestrian crossings. Due to the LED technology these areas can be seen from afar so the likelihood of accidents decreases.

• Solar road markers are also used around no entry areas and embassy areas to show that vehicles cannot pass beyond a certain point. They are of course supported by signs and posts.

• Their use on the highway is particularly important as drivers may be tired and may miss lanes or turnings they need to take unless something like this catches their attention on an otherwise monotonous road. They are strategically positioned for maximum impact and are also used to differentiate one lane from another to prevent high speed collisions.

• Solar road markers have recently been introduced to mountainous areas since the often have curled up roads and sharp turnings which can be very dangerous at night.

• Airports have also started using them on the landing areas to facilitate airplane navigation as well as on other parts of the airport to show things like where to stand, where to park the car and so on.
