Marine Solar Lights
Solar power has taken the world by storm in the past couple of years as opposed to where it was in the developmental stage for years and failed to create a commercially viable system which people or companies would opt for. Marine solar lights are another way (just like solar traffic lights and street lights) to harness the sun’s rays and use them to power various devices for public and personal use.
The general concept is that the batteries that come with the solar panels keep gathering power during the day and storing it away so that they can power a grid or in this case lights at night. Marine solar lights take many forms such as lights on boats, dock lights, marine markers to indicate spots and so on. Not only are they vital for safety but also for convenience for people who are regularly sailing either for commercial use or for recreation.
At night the LED powered solar lights turn on as the sensors in the junction box sense that external light is no longer present. The function is automatic in its entirety which makes them brilliant because they do not need to be maintained and a person does not need to switch them on and off. LED bulbs are a popular choice because they are low voltage consuming and can keep the unit running for days if need be without charge as many days might be bad weather days.
Nautical safety has always been important but these solar navigation lights take it to another level as they are constant and efficient and they can keep running in unmanageable and adverse weather conditions which are to be expected at sea on a regular basis. They are also waterproof and long lasting. The only way they will stop functioning is if they are covered with a thick layer of dirt but that is unlikely when they are placed in an area where they will be constantly in touch with water.
The colors and designs vary according to manufacturers but since they are used for making boats aesthetically pleasing and for marking channels and other safety related purposes like a solar beacon, they are usually available in a wide range of colors.
The LED factor makes them shine brightly and actually makes the colors stand out more which is perfect and can make them visible from a distance of more than 2 kilometers for drivers and much more than that for everyone else.
Of course a solar marine lantern has flashing and SOS functions as well incorporated within it for emergencies when the boat needs to be spotted from afar and when communications have failed. Although the lights come with a warranty of ten years with an expected lasting rate of twenty years they do have replaceable batteries.
Batteries are the one component which can be affected if water gets into the junction box and this can cause corrosion to occur. Although the unit otherwise requires very little maintenance the batteries do need to be checked every now and then for the effect of water.
