Home Solar Energy

Residential solar installation or home solar energy systems are the key to a greener future and is now a trend which is far more popular when compared with just a few years ago. In many countries such as US, there have been considerable tax subsidies and cuts since the government wants homeowners to consider photovoltaic as the power generating way of the future. It should be noted that these units can be multi-functional such as being the roof or taking the place of the windows.

They are essentially two types of home solar energy systems to choose from. The most common system is the Grid Connect. This system connects the inverters of your solar unit to the main power grid which means solar energy can supplement your power usage or it can be switched on to power your house whenever you want. The second option is a Stand-Alone solar system in which you cannot connect to the main utility grid but must use a back up battery or generator which the electricity is to be stored in.

Some preliminary considerations should be carried out regarding how much energy can be harnessed during winter or how much sunlight does your house receive anyway. If the house is squeezed next to other houses or there are large buildings blocking the way then actual sunlight hitting the house may be negligible. It is wise to calculate the amount of money you will be saving on your electricity bill if you will be using solar power for several hours a day.

It is best to not attempt installation on your own. Hire a professional who has experience with installing home solar energy systems and can get the job done quickly and efficiently. You can opt for creating a solar roof or solar windows if you want the unit disguised in the best way possible. The panels can also be hoisted onto your regular roof. Creating a solar roof however saves you the added expense of buying roofing shingles since the panels look and act like asphalt or tile shingles.

A solar system is made to last for many years unless there is a hurricane or major natural disaster. You can maintain the system yourself by keeping it routinely free from bird droppings, mold and dirt. You can also get the wiring and inverters checked by your installer. To avoid any potential electric hazards a twice in a year check up by a specialist should suffice.

Most homeowners get carried away with the initial costs to actually sit down and calculate how much they will be saving in bills for years to come especially if their heating needs etc were taken over by solar electricity. Families have reported hefty saving on utility bills.

Solar systems are the future since water generated electricity is difficult where there isn’t enough water. The sun is a free luxury which scientists are only now beginning to fully utilize using photovoltaic technology.
